Potensi Koleksi Cauliflora di Kebun Raya Bogor

Cauliflora is a botanical term referring to plants which flower and fruit from their main stems or woody trunks rather than from new growth and shoots. Some trees might have become cauliflorous because they produce large, heavy fruits which would be difficult to support on the branches alone. Generally, the cauliflory has an attractive flower and fruit although the number of Cauliflora are only a fews but some of them have an important role in ecological and economical values. Based on an observation and literature survey, the cauliflora plants have many potentials such as food/beverage sources, medicinal plants, ornamental plants, materials of construction and handycraft. Some of them are growing on the Bogor Botanic Gardens and the flowers/fruits are relatively achievable by visitors. These collection plants are being threatened species on the Gardens, while some of them are endangered species. Hopefully, the results of the observation could become a basis for effective conservation efforts in the future.
