A new species of the hermit crab genus Diogenes Dana, 1851 (Decapoda, Anomura, Diogenidae) from Lombok, Indonesia

A new species of the family Diogenidae, Diogenes takedai sp. nov. is described from sea grass beds of Lombok Island, Indonesia. The new species appears closest to D. tirmiziae Siddique & McLaughlin, 2003, in having ocular peduncles and pereopods, and similar armature of the antennal peduncles and left chela, but is distinguished from that species by the tapered ocular peduncles and moderately narrow corneas, and the propodi of the second and third pereopods without spines on the dorsal margin. The new species is compared to other similar congeneric from Indo-West Pacific. The species of Diogenes known from Indonesian waters are briefly reviewed.
